Scars are recognized by their lighter, darker or pinkish colour and are slightly depressed or raised compared to the surrounding skin. Acne is the most common cause of scarring followed by accidental trauma and surgical operations.
Acne scars in Indian skin are treated most effectively by dermaroller microneedling, platelet rich plasma, subscision and chemical peels. Usually various combinations of these procedures are performed in the same or alternating sessions. Dermal fillers is another procedure which can be done for immediate improvement in acne scarring. Raised or hypertrophic acne scars can be flattened with intra-lesional steroid injections.
Accidental scars and surgical scars too respond well to the previously mentioned treatment methods.
Newly forming trauma or surgical scars can be prevented with Botox.
A scar revision treatment under my guidance begins with a detailed consultation and examining of the scars in order to decide the treatment method which will give the best improvement.
Improvement is usually evident from the first treatment itself. But several sessions may be required for resolution of the scars. The amount of improvement expected depends upon the type of acne scars. And total recovery is possible for many patients.
